There are over 200+ species of Hibiscus and it’s Christmas Eve so I don’t think I’m going to attempt to identify the specific plant here, especially since I don’t have pictures of it’s leaves. But it is from the Raulston Arboretum in Raleigh, NC.

But hey, my mom doesn’t like all my gross spider pictures because, well, spiders are gross to her. So she wanted a nice flower shot. Well – merry Christmas Mom! This one is for you! More to come, I promise. Especially after I get a few more gross bug photos out of the way.

Hibiscus are in the Malvaceae family which was mentioned in an early post about Scentless Plant Bugs who are mostly specific to this family. From the different species there is hibiscus that is used for shampoo, bubbles, and making paper. Some hibiscus plants have medicinal qualities and in Hawaii women wear hibiscus in their hair to signify if they are single or married. Dried hibiscus can be eaten or used in teas.
